Meet Bryan Strain

Bryan Strain
Senior Investment Advisor at Hurley Investments
I began my investing career in the late 1990s while working at MetaStock, a premier provider of technical analysis software. That role gave me a front-row seat to the markets during the dot-com bubble, and I had the privilege of meeting many respected investing professionals along the way.
It was during this time that I first met Don Fishback, a renowned expert in options and probability. After learning from his seminars and studying his disciplined approach, I knew I wanted to follow a similar path. I reached out to Don, and the timing was perfect—he became both a mentor and a colleague.
Over the next 26 years, Don and I worked closely together, teaching investors how options strategies could be applied with discipline and consistency. During that time, I gained extensive experience in both markets and investor education. I even pursued a teaching degree at Utah State University and graduated with honors. When Don chose to step back to spend more time with his family, I felt grateful for the foundation he had passed on to me.
As the investment education landscape shifted, I noticed a clear trend: while information became freely available online, many people with the means to invest simply didn’t have the time or interest to learn the details themselves. After conversations with colleagues and business partners, I decided to transition from education to direct portfolio management.
I joined Hurley Investments as a Senior Investment Advisor—a role I had long been encouraged to pursue by my friend Kevin Hurley, the firm’s founder. Today, I am licensed, bonded, and insured, and I work directly with clients to help them pursue their investment goals with strategies tailored to their individual needs.
While my teaching background gave me deep experience explaining complex strategies in plain language, my current role allows me to apply that expertise on a personal level—working side by side with clients to create investment approaches aligned with their objectives. Kevin's firm uses a hybrid approach of educating while managing. This approach suits my point of view very well.
Any teacher will tell you that teachers learn more than students. Teaching keeps me on the cutting edge of investing knowledge, and I get to help people. One of the greatest benefits of my transition is that I no longer have to say I can't give you personalized investment advice.
